Van Nortwick Family's Vanilla Ice Cream | |
Ingredients 6 egg yolks 1 quart half-and-half 1 quart heavy whipping cream 2/3 cup granular fructose or dextrose 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract (McCormack) 1/2 teaspoon iodized salt Directions Reserve egg whites for another time in freezer. Beat egg yolks and add to large sauce pan. Add half-and-half, sweetner, and salt to eggs and mix together. Then heat over very low heat until mixture coats spoon. The slow is part of what gives this such a great texture. (15-20 minutes). Allow to cool to the touch. Then add cream and vanilla extract. Pre-chill mixture 10-20 minutes and then add mixture to a electric or large manual ice-cream maker. Process according to your maker's directions. Serves 12. You can add any flavoring extract, we use a number of them available from Wilton's. The orange flavoring for half a batch gives you a great creamsicle for a family reunion or backyard picnic in the summer. Use Dessert, snack |
